Teens (under 18 yrs. old) items you must bring for the Road Test:

  • Your Level 1 License (No Digital Copies)
  • Your Segment 2 certificate
  • Your drive log showing 50 hours or more of supervised driving of which 10 hours are nighttime hours
  • Current valid proof of insurance for the vehicle to be used during the road test
  • Current valid registration for the vehicle to be used during the road test.
  • Must bring one parent or legal guardian and they must accompany their teen during the road test. No other passengers are allowed in the vehicle during the test

Teen Eligibility Requirments:

  • Under 18 years old
  • Held your level 1 license for at least 6 months
  • Completed Segment 2 class
  • Driven and logged a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving of which 10 hours are nighttime hours

Road Test

The state of Michigan does not conduct the driving test. The Driving Test also known as the Road Test is conducted by private third-party companies authorized by the Michigan Secretary of State. Central Road Testing LLC is an authorized road testing company.

If a parent/legal guardian is not available to accompany their teen during the road test, then they may designate another adult to ride in the vehicle with the teen. They must write and sign a letter granting permission for another adult 21 years or older to accompany their teen on the road test and the letter must state that their teen meets all of the requirements to take the road test.

The student taking the road test must be free and clear of any accidents or tickets, 90 days prior to the scheduled road test date.

Adults, International Students, and Visiting Scholars Eligibility Requirements:

  • Adult Applicants (Adults 18 years or older):
  • Valid Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) (No Digital Copies)
  • Photo Identification with applicant’s name and picture i.e., Government, Passport, School, or Work ID (an expired Government ID is acceptable). Must be clearly visible, picture not more than 4 yrs. old and in serviceable condition. (No Digital Copies)

  • International Applicants:
  • Possess a current valid international license (No Digital Copies) and
  • Possess the valid Driving Skills Test Authorization Receipt (DSTAR) issued by the Michigan Secretary of State (No Digital Copies)
  • Current valid proof of insurance for the vehicle to be used during the road test
  • Current valid registration for the vehicle to be used during the road test
No other occupants are allowed in the vehicle other than Tester and the adult being tested.

How To Schedule A Road Test

Call (517) 337-4041 to make an appointment. If there is no answer please leave a voicemail with your name and phone number. We will return your call as soon as possible (usually the same day or within 24 hours). After making the road test appointment click on the link at the bottom of this page to download the road test contract. Print the contract, complete it, and bring it to your appointment.

When you call to make your appointment you will need the following information and a debit or credit card for payment:

Teens: Level 1 License Number and Date of Birth

Adults: Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) DL Number and Date of Birth

Internationals: The DL Number on the Driving Skills Test Authorization Receipt (DSTAR) and Date of Birth

Vehicle Rental: $30.00
Central Road Testing LLC does have a rental vehicle available for the road test if needed.

Retests ( For the reduced pricing retest must be taken within 2 months of original test):

Driver Performance Failure (BCS Course or On the Road): $60.00 (One time, any additional tests revert to original price).

Driver or Vehicle Document Failure: $35.00 (One time, any additional tests revert to original price).

Vehicle Inspection Failure: $35.00 (One time, any additional tests revert to original price).

Cancellation and Rescheduling Fees:

Rescheduling Test Fee: $15.00

Canceling Test Fee with more than 24 hrs notice: $20.00

Canceling Test Fee with less than 24 hrs notice: No Refund

The Okemos site is just a few minutes from MSU and is on the CATA bus route (Bus Stop #2881). Near the intersection of Okemos Rd and Bennett Road.

We Do NOT conduct the road testing directly outside of our office building or where our driver education vehicles are parked. The testing area is located on the Northwest side of the parking lot near Bennett Road at the (Bennett Rd entrance). Go to the testing area (There is a sign there, Central Road Testing Test Site).
